The ITU Hamburg spectacle

July 10

wanted to make the heading about what I consider a debacle of race organisation. However on Saturday we saw one of the most awe inspiring performances from our Olympic Champion Nicola Spirig, who turned the day for Trisutto into a spectacular success.

12 weeks after the birth of her third child Alexis, and family in tow, to place 8th in her comeback race was sensational.  Even more was making the automatic selection criteria for the Swiss Olympic Triathlon Team. Not one to sit back, Nicola surprised herself with a great swim, then as we have so often seen before, attacked the bike with gusto before out running many of the runners and sending a warning to those with hopes of Tokyo 2020.

Nicola now has to show good form and fitness in 2020, to take her spot in her 5th Olympics. Anyone who was in Hamburg, now knows that she will be going not as a spectator, but her intent is to be again on the podium. Congratulations to Nicola for breaking even more barriers in her career, trailblazing a path for mums, showing there is virtually nothing disciplined females can't do.
