Overcoming Adversity

September 11

Inspiring performances at Ironman Wales
It was a terrific day in Wales with two of our Ironman warriors taking on arguably one of the toughest races on the circuit.
Matt returned to fighting shape, with a great all round performance to take a sensational win. A few small adjustments to training and equipment were made over the European summer, coupled with Matt's strength of character and resolve, which saw him back on the top step of the Ironman podium.

Camilla also returned to Ironman racing in Wales ready to take on whatever the day would throw out at her. A big lead out of the water was somewhat hampered by an early bike crash. Camilla soldiered on ultimately finishing with a superb 2nd place.

Both Matt and Camilla have secured Kona spots for 2019. Congratulations!

Comebacks in Yverdon
Michelle lined up for her full first triathlon of the season at Triathlon d'Yverdon-les-Bains. Out of T2 in 3rd position, Michelle tentatively started the run, however much to her surprise, she ran herself to victory! The countless hours hiking the St.Moritz mountains with nothing more than a backpack of rocks has proved to be a winner!

It was great to see Sandy also toeing the start line at Yverdon, her first triathlon of the year. After the turmoil of the swim start, she found herself a little further back than she would have liked, however working hard over the bike and run Sandy clawed her way back to finish in a solid 6th position. Welcome back Sandy.

Santa Cruz 70.3
After last weekends 70.3 World Championships James backed up with another half distance race whilst on route to Hawaii. 5th place at Santa Cruz 70.3 as he further builds his fitness for the Ironman World Champs in 5 weeks time.
Run, run as fast as you can!
Outstanding performances by Max and Felix at the National U/23 5000m at the track. Finishing in 1st and 3rd positions respectively, both also took home huge Personal Bests!

Pamela used the Half Marathon at the Maraton TPS Valparaiso as her long run for the week and surprised herself with a very strong performance, crossing the line in first place.

Great to see Jane enjoying a run race near home as she looks forward to some shorter distance tri's (for her!) in the coming weeks.
